GBCS Apple Award

The APPLE Award is given to a Grand Blanc staff member who exemplifies Educational Excellence and/or Extraordinary Service to People.

APPLE stands for Applauding People who Provide service at a Level of Excellence!  This program, which was begun originally at the old Grand Blanc Middle School, provides parents, school employees, students, volunteers, or visitors with an opportunity to recognize any Grand Blanc staff member who exemplifies Educational Excellence and/or Extraordinary Service to People.  Again, any Grand Blanc employee is eligible for the award!

Nominations can be made in two ways:

  • Nominating cards are located on all schools’ main office counters.  These cards can be filled out and sent to the Superintendent’s office.

  • Nomination forms are also available on the district’s website by clicking HERE. They can be filled out and submitted on line—just look for the APPLE logo .

The nominating process is simple.  The Superintendent’s Cabinet will consider all applications and reach a decision about each.  The award itself is a nicely framed certificate that the superintendent will present personally at a regularly scheduled staff meeting or gathering. This award is for staff members who perform a service above and beyond the call of duty, not for those who are simply doing a very good job!  Additionally, nominators should not inform those who they nominate for obvious reasons—if someone isn’t selected for the award and they know they were nominated, there could be unintentional hurt feelings.

Here’s an example of a past nominee and eventual recipient:  After school, a teacher finds out from another student that one of his students is suicidal.  When he calls the suicidal student’s parents to inform them, he finds out that the student is actually alone until his parents get home from work at 6:30 p.m.  The teacher goes to the student’s home, stays with him until his parents arrive, and explain the situation to the parents—on a Friday night! So, if you learn of, or observe, a school employee who unselfishly provides either educational excellence or an extraordinary service above and beyond the call of duty, nominate them for the Apple Award.
